San Lorenzo is a much smaller church than the past few I’ve visited. This baroque church (completed in 1574) is built on the site of St. Lawarence’s death. He was burnt alive over hot coals (notice the fresco behind the altar). Sounds miserable, but St. Lawrence was so on fire (pun intended?) for God and his faith, he joked with his executioners saying, “Turn me over, I’m done on this side.” This is a classic “dudes rock” moment.
